Offering Value

When it comes to job interviews, people know what to do. Show up, answer the questions, and send a follow up email. Simple enough right?

What if I told there was a better way? Instead of following the crowd, there is a way to stand out. In a competitive marketplace with various degrees and backgrounds, simply answering the questions is not enough. In this podcast, Kong and Jesse of Simple Pickup talk with the Art of Charm about interviewing candidates (see 47 minute mark). Both are very successful online, and they discuss what impresses them. The key thing is to add value right away, even in an interview.

That brings us to the “Briefcase Technique” by Ramit Sethi. He describes the technique of, mid-interview, pulling out a piece of paper from your briefcase with a list of problems the business faces and your solutions that you can implement if you were to be hired. This is results-driven, and stands out from the pack. No matter who you’re going against, whether it be more education or more years of experience, you become the best choice. When you want something from someone, you have to offer value first and the rest will follow.
