This week’s post is about a song that really hit home for me, “Closer” by Mike Stud. The song talks about his path to success, all the ups and downs along the way, and how he feels progress.
In the first line he says, “I used to dream about showing the world what I dream about.” That line is so deep to me; any artist hopes that people listen and care about their music. One day, I hope that my thoughts can have that value, that I can share my ideas and influence others.
Mike Stud always “thought it’d be the mound” where he would shine, but to use a baseball analogy, “life threw me a curveball.” That’s true for everyone, life doesn’t go as planned but he channeled that pain to find another passion.
Eventually, Mike Stud turned rapping into success, but that doesn’t mean people didn’t question it. He says, “there ain’t no doubt, I continue to be the doubted” as some still don’t think he’ll be successful. But once he does reach that level the support will come: “the same people asking why you’re doing it/were asking how you did it.”
And lastly, the bridge of this song is really relevant: “you start losing your mind when you’re gone all the time and you always on the move.” Travel and changing locations is hard, and sometimes it does seem simpler to have one place. But just “try to remind yourself it’s gonna be fine/and you hoping that it’s true.” Belief is so important, keep it and success will follow.
